High stake poker action during the fourth week of March
The last few days have represented a rather busy period at the high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker mostly. Gus Hansen took on Phil Galfond, looking to ride his hot streak, and Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates locked horns in yet another durrrr Challenge session, in which Cates managed to get the better of the New Jersey Wonderkid yet again. The Galfond/Hansen confrontation gave birth to several large pots, and both players took down their fair

When ever I bust out of tourneys these days my first thought is always: "what an utter waste of time" followed by "why do I keep playing every week?". The next line of action is usually to close my account for a number of days. The following evening, I find myself missing something to do. Poker has become a way of killing off some hours between workouts, updating this blog and spending time with my girlfriend. It's almost become a habit. I seriously need something else to do in the time slot between

This article belongs to the Poker Tools series and is about one of the best beginner's poker schools, namely Grinderschool.
When you're a poker beginner there's basically two ways of improving your skills. Either you gain experience yourself by putting in the hours at the tables and seeking out information from books and online resources. Or you get feedback on your play from other players who have already beaten the level you're aiming to beat. In reality, the fastest way to improve your poker

This article belongs to the Poker Tools series and is about the best poker school online today.
Poker schools are a great way of gaining the knowledge needed to take your game to the next level. However many of the available online poker schools are more or less affiliate sites in disguise. This means that the main focus of the site is not to help you become a better poker player, but instead to sign up you up to their poker affiliation sites. Don't get me wrong! There's nothing wrong with making

High stake poker action during the third week of March
Gus Hansen’s losing days are now a distant memory both for him and for the railbirds who follow his every move at Full Tilt Poker. Lately, it seems that whenever he logs in, he walks away from the table with a huge chunk of his opponent’s money. That trend continued over the last few days, as Hansen locked horns with Daniel Cates repeatedly and generated profits in excess of $750k. With all that, Cates didn’t do too bad himself: he ended

This article is about the Martingale betting system and why it doesn't work in the long run.
During the 3 years I've been running the Poker Bankroll Blog I've come across multiple get-rich-fast websites promising a sure way to earn heaps of money. Let me make one thing clear right from the start - when websites promise you a fool proof way of getting rich, in most cases they are the ones getting rich; not you. In order to make money you need to invest time and effort, get lucky or be brilliant.

High stake poker action during the second week of March
These past few days the overall online poker action may have been going through a lull, but if that was indeed the case, someone forgot to tell NoPasaran and XWINK about it. The two players locked horns at the $300/$600 PLO tables at Full Tilt, with XWINK obviously looking to ride his winning streak. It all blew up in his face this time though, and since his return, he appears to be riding a rollercoaster rather than anything else. NoPasaran

High stake poker action during the 1st week of March
Last week (the first week of March) was an extremely happening one in terms of high stakes online poker action. Several ‘name’ pros saw action at both top online poker rooms (Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars), but quite probably the biggest story of the week was the re-emergence of XWINK at Full Tilt Poker. Provided he is indeed the same 20-something old Canadian who played at UB under the moniker XBLINK, XWINK’s story is a truly impressive

HHigh stake poker action during the 4th week of February
The nosebleed stakes PLO tables were busy last week, with many of the regulars seeing action. Two of the most significant such high stakes matches saw Patrik Antonius go up against Daniel Cates at Full Tilt Poker and Viktor Blom (Isildur1) lock horns with Scott Palmer at PokerStars. Both matches ended up as one-sided affairs, as Blom took about $500k from Palmer and Cates scored a $608k profit at Antonius’ expense.
Cates vs Antonius

Submitted by Joe from Coolercash this article about Variance in poker - understanding heaters and coolers belongs to the Poker Strategy series.
When I started playing cards 20 years ago, I was only concerned with one thing…winning. This seems like it is always the goal when you sit down and play any form of cards. I have played most forms of poker and consider myself proficient in most all of them, but now good enough to be giving much advice on. The few games I am good at, I will give advice
