Littlewoods Poker

Sunday, February 7th, 2010 | Poker Room | 2 Comments

This article belongs to the Poker Room series.

For some time I have been looking for a new poker room because I feel convinced the sites I have played on until now are TOTALLY RIGGED (deep down I know this is not the case but it is nice to have something to blame for your misfortune). In all seriousness it’s nice to change poker rooms once in a while to get a change of scenery.

In my search for a new poker room online site, I recently came across Littlewoods poker and decided to write a short review about them. Littlewoods poker belongs to the Pacific Poker network, which is owned by 888 holdings PLC (listed on the London stock exchange). The Pacific Poker network headquarters are located in Gibraltar and this is also where their game servers are located.

Littlewoods poker together with the other poker sites sharing the Pacific Poker network have on average around 1500 players at any given time. This is not a lot, however most of the players on Littlewoods come from casino games, which apparently results in some very juicy poker tables.

The Littlewoods poker website has a nice poker lounge feature where you among other things can learn how to play poker and catch up with the latest poker news on the Littlewoods poker blog.

When it comes to poker tournaments there’s really not that many of interest for me on Littlewoods poker. I mostly play online poker tournaments that start from 18:00 – 20:00 GMT. These days my bankroll is non-existent, so I usually go for low buyin tournaments with large guaranteed prize pools since I don’t mind playing against a large field. The Littlewoods poker tournament schedule has zero tournaments matching my criteria so I won’t be opening an account here.

What is your take on Littlewoods poker? Have you ever played there? Have you ever considered depositing money there?

Rush Poker – will Full Tilt Poker’s new poker concept revolutionize online poker

Friday, January 22nd, 2010 | Poker Articles, Poker News, Poker Room | 5 Comments

Full Tilt Poker have invented an ingenious new poker concept fittingly named Rush Poker. The general idea of Rush Poker is to play as many hands as possible by minimizing the time you have to wait between hands. Rush Poker is extremely fast, enabling players to play in excess of 300 hands per hour on a single table.

Here’s how Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker works:

When you join a Rush Poker game you are placed in a pool of other Rush Poker players at your chosen limit and poker variant. These players are then distributed randomly on poker tables. The main difference between Rush Poker and regular poker appears once you fold your hand. In regular poker you have to wait until all the action has finished before a new hand starts – this is not the case in Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker. In Rush Poker, once you fold a hand you are immediately moved to a new table and a new hand is dealt to you. This is what enables you to play a massive amount of hands per hour. On the down side, you will have no time whatsoever to make reads on your opponents. Rush Poker is multi-tabling taken to the extreme.

I for one am looking forward to seeing what new poker strategies spawn from Full Tilt Poker’s Rush Poker concept. We might even see Rush Poker tournaments in the near future.

List of Poker Rooms

Friday, October 10th, 2008 | Poker Network, Poker Room | No Comments

This article is a part of the poker room series.

When looking for an online poker site the problem is not at all where to find a site but more which site to choose? WOSB.com has made a complete list of online poker sites. The list contains over 350 poker rooms and information is available about:

Traffic rank: the estimated amount of traffic to the poker site homepage.
Poker Network: which poker network the site is connected to.
Jurisdiction: where the poker site has obtained a poker license.
Poker rakeback: Whether it is possible to receive rakeback at this site. The rakeback list is not complete as it only contains the rakeback deals offered by PokerBRB.

It is possible to choose all poker sites connected to a certain poker network. This gives an very good overview of the options you have as a customer. The traffic rank furthermore provides an indication of the popularity of each poker room. Mind you, this is only an indication.
If you really want to be sure whether the poker room you choose is owned by a solid company you should have a look at the list of all egaming companies listed on the stock exchange.

You might ask which poker room I would choose? I have personally tried most poker networks out there and in the process realized that it can have a very positive effect to change poker room once in a while. For some reason you tend to be more focused when you change to a new poker room which ensures that you are playing your A-game. Changing poker room can also give some extra cash through poker sign up bonuses.

Enjoy!

Ladbrokes Poker Review

Saturday, September 20th, 2008 | Poker Articles, Poker Network, Poker Room | No Comments

Ladbrokes poker is quickly becoming one of Europe’s most popular poker rooms. Designed with the player in mind this site offers a quick smooth and user friendly interface with easy table navigation and table play. Ladbrokes easy to use software including sports betting and casino rivals the biggest poker sites on the web.

Featuring fast loose cash games with high average pots make Ladbrokes a great place for players looking for action and good profits. Being that Ladbrokes is so user friendly is it also a great place for beginner poker players to start their online poker experience. Featuring casino and sports betting allows for recreational players to have some fun between hands playing for bets as low as one dollar.

A few small downfalls to this site are server speed and the sit out feature. The server has good speed for the poker client but is slow at times when using the casino or sports betting features. Though this site does have a sit out feature for cash games, the time allotted to sit out is small and a player can easily find themselves off a table during a food or bathroom break. In conclusion this is a fun professional poker client that every online player should take time to experience.

Ladbrokes joins Microgaming.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 | Poker Articles, Poker Network, Poker Room | No Comments

Ladbrokespoker.com is to set to join the Microgaming Poker Network to ensure more action for its players in tournaments and certain cash games.

Ladbrokespoker.com already licenses Microgaming’s poker software, so Ladbrokes’ customers will notice little change to the site when it begins operating within the Microgaming Poker Network from early 2009.

Commenting on the move John O’Reilly, Managing Director, Ladbrokes Remote Betting and Gaming said:

“Joining the Microgaming network will give our players more action on a wider variety of games, particularly at higher staking levels. Microgaming is a leading network and will offer Ladbrokespoker players faster access to the games they want. We will continue to operate outside of the network on tables where we already offer players the level of action they demand.”

This is a bit of a shame if you ask me. I think that it is good that there are a large number of medium sized poker networks were you can play. This reason is mostly a psychological. If you are on a down swing or need to find new motivation, it can be very healthy to try out a different network.

Gambling Stocks

Monday, June 9th, 2008 | Poker Articles, Poker Network, Poker Room | 5 Comments

This article is a part of the Poker Room series.

Do you feel like the house always wins or that the rake is too high? If so, you could actually be the house by investing in E-gaming / gambling stocks. I have put together a list of all the companies related to gambling and listed on stock exchanges around the world.

Company Name – Gambling Brands

Party Gaming: Party Poker, Empire Poker, Gamebookers and other brands.

Ladbrokes: Ladbrokes.

Bet-at-home: Bet-at-home.

32Red: 32Red Poker.

Webis Holdings plc: BetInternet.

Leisure & Gaming: Betshop.

Betsson: Betsson Sportsbook and Exchange.

Rank Group: Blue Square.

International All Sports: IASbet and Canbet.

Centrebet International: Centrebet

Paddy Power plc: Paddy Power

Unibet Group: Unibet and Maria Bingo.

William Hill plc: William Hill.

888 Holdings: Pacific Poker, 888, Betmate and other brands.

British Sky Broadcasting: Skybet.

Betbull plc: Betbull Betting Exchange

Modern Times Group: Bet24.

BWIN Interactive Entertainment: BWIN, Betoto and Ongame Poker Network.

Sportingbet plc: Sportingbet, BetUK and Paradise Poker Network.

FLUXX: Mybet and Jaxx.

GigaMedia Ltd: Everest Poker.

Lasseters Corporation: Lasseters Sportsbook.

Redbet Holding: Redbet

Cryptologic Limited: The Cryptologic Poker Network and Casino Software.

Playtech. The IPoker Network and Casino Software.

As a whole the online gambling business is expected to double its total revenue over the next 5-6 years (source: Global Betting and Gaming Consultants), but there are some very large uncertainties to consider before investing. Just remember how the US marked closed almost from one day to the other, with the result that many stocks lost up to 60 percent of their value. This could happen in some European countries too. But the key is, as with all investments; keep your portfolio diversified to minimize your overall risk.

Everest Poker Network Review

Saturday, June 7th, 2008 | Poker Articles, Poker Network, Poker Room | No Comments

his is the first article in the series of reviews of the different poker networks out there. I gave an overview of all the different poker networks on the Internet in my previous article.

Everest Poker Stat Box:

Financial Information:
Everest Poker is owned by Ultra Internet Media, S.A. This company also runs a number of online casino brands. The mother company of Everest Poker, GigaMedia Ltd, is listed on NASDAQ. The site has managed to become the 6th largest poker network based on traffic.

Network Statistics:

Special Features at Everest Poker:

Everest Poker has the unique possibility that players can play free SNG. Games available are:

5-10 10 minutes 0% $0.05/$0.03/$0.02

How to sign up:
You will immediately notice that a lot of players -up to 100- sign up for the free SNG’s. But tables are filled up very quickly, so within 5-10 minutes you should have 2-4 tables open and playing.

The prize pool is very low: $0.05 for a win, 2nd place $0.03 and 3rd $0.02. But the minimum buy in for the lowest cash table at Everest Poker is $0.2. So you only have to win four SNG before you can play cash poker with your free bankroll money.

Tips for playing free SNG’s at Everest Poker:
Play tight and DON’T ever slow play on these table. The competitors will call anything and go all the way to the river. I played 3 SNG´s while writing this article. Ended up with one 1st place, one 2nd place and a 3rd place finish, and a whooping profit of $0.1.
If you are only after the money, start a number of tables (Maximum is 8). Set your status to “sitting out”. This means the you will auto fold your hand. The level change is every 10 minutes, so sitting out the first 30 minutes is no problem. After this time the field should be reduced and you will have a better chance of getting “in the money”.

So in conclusion these SNG are excellent if you want a quick free SNG to practice your poker skills but also if you want to build a bankroll and have no money to invest.

Most Secure Poker Sites

Monday, June 2nd, 2008 | Poker Articles, Poker Network, Poker Room | No Comments

The E-Gaming business as a whole has a very rogue reputation. In my opinion one of the reasons is that a considerable amount of the companies are located on offshore jurisdiction, like Costa Rica, Netherlands Antillies and Antigua & Barbuda. These companies have no obligation to disclose any financial information to the public. We at the Poker Bankroll Blog have therefore made a top 10 list of the most financial secure poker sites available online.

But first of all, what is a financial secure company? Is it the company with the largest revenue, the highest equity, the largest traffic or the largest market value?

We believe that the best measurement is to rate the companies after how large the market value of the company is. The reason being that publicly listed companies are obligated to inform the shareholders about their financial status. Where as non-public companies are not. For example, the poker sites with the largest traffic - Poker Stars - is registered on Isle Of Man and is privately owned.

If you Google “Rational Entertainment Enterprises Limited”, the company that holds the ownership of Poker Stars, you will only get the following information about this company:
Rational Entertainment Enterprises Limited
10 Hill Street
Douglas IM1 1EF
Isle of Man

Poker Stars most likely earns a considerable amount of money every year, but we cannot be sure.

Another reason for using the listed companies as a measurement for the security of the company, is based on an often used Economical Theory. It is assumed that the market value of a company is a function of all information available to the public. This means that every little piece of information is gathered and interpreted about the company; the accumulative sum of this information gives the market value.
Because these companies are listed on the stock exchange they also often show a larger social awareness. Many of the companies are active in helping people with gambling problems.

The top 10 list of Companies offering Poker are:

  1. Skypoker – BSKYB PLC – Value 25158M Euro
  2. Ladbrokes – Ladbrokes PLC – Value 2476M Euro
  3. Bet24 – Modern Times Group  – Value 2330M Euro
  4. William Hill – William Hill PLC – Value 1778M Euro
  5. Paddy Power – Paddy Power PLC – Value 1160M Euro
  6. Party Poker – Partygaming – Value 1068M Euro
  7. BWIN Poker – BWIN Interactive Entertainment AG – Value 758M Euro
  8. Pacific Poker (888) – 888 Holdings PLC – Value 631M Euro
  9. Unibet Poker – Unibet Group PLC – Value 457M Euro
  10. Eurobet Poker / Coral Poker – Rank – 446M Euro

Poker Networks

Poker networks introduction

This article is a part of the Poker Network series.

This article will give you an overview over the different Poker Networks out there. Many poker rooms share players and tables with other poker rooms because they are on the same poker network. This helps to ensure an adequate number of players and action for all the poker rooms on the same network. These poker rooms are often referred to as “skins”. As a player, you may want to have multiple accounts on the same poker network, through different skins, to take advantage of bonuses and promotions offered by each individual poker room.

Another major difference between the poker networks is whether it is possible to receive rakeback. As you can read in our rakeback articles, the amount you pay in rake is a significant amount if you play more than just a few hours a week.

When choosing a poker network, our suggestion is that you shop around to find the offer that suits you the best. Some decisive factors are:

  • Whether it is possible to receive Rakeback. If you play regularly this could give you an considerable monthly bankroll boost.
  • Good Sign Up Promotion and good loyalty programs available. Some bonus offers are easy to play through and can give a quick boost to you poker bankroll.
  • Good traffic when you normally have your sessions.
  • If you are from the States or like to play against US citizens, you should pick a network that is still open for these players.
  • You should feel comfortable at the table. The can sound lame for some people, but on some networks you just feel more at home. This can have an affect on your game.
  • Whether you want other offers than poker, for example sports betting or blackjack. Not all poker rooms are connected to these offers.
  • Finally the country under which the site operates and has its license can be decisive for your choice. This is especially true for citizens in some EU countries. Income is taxed if the poker site does not have a license in EU. The rules are not clear, so check other forums for information about the rules in your country.

Poker networks overview

An overview of the poker networks currently available can be viewed here. There are other minor sites, but they have very low traffic and thus have not been included in this table. The Poker Networks are ranked after the average amount of players connected.

This article is the first of a series of articles with the aim of giving a better overview of the different places where it is possible to play poker.
